After Momma is all done and everyone is settled its important to make sure momma gets time to go potty, drink and eat, we will also do this during whelping if she has stalled or in a little break! Once Mama is all done we give her meloxicam once daily for 3 days, meloxicam is an anti inflammatory that really helps with the discomfort after birth, along with safeguard dewormer once daily for 3 days. We give 1/8 TSP of calcium once daily after momma is done whelping until she is getting ready to wean, this helps with milk production and much more.For the first week after birth it is not uncommon for Momma to have diarrhea, it is important to try and get this under control as fast as possible to prevent mom from getting dehydrated, we use the propectalin and pumpkin. We give all our parents Nuvet plus but when momma is pregnant and nursing we give 2 tablets daily along with omegas and probiotics! Momma will need lots of extra nutrients to support nursing all her babies, she may also get kinda picky so making sure you have nutrient rich meals is very important! In the beginning we feed our mommas 4-5 times a day and then go to 3 times a day always with access to dry food and then with their meals we give satin balls until they are no longer in the bin full time and are preparing to start weaning.
